Rogue Beast Co.: a custom store built for pre-orders

Rogue Beast Co. is a new apparel brand from Marcos Diaz: bold, colorful shirts and hoodies with character art. He needed more than a page of pictures. He needed a store that could take real payments for a first run of pre-orders, charge the right sales tax, and hand him a clean list of what to print when the pre-order closed. I built it as a custom one-page store that runs on his own Stripe account.

The brief: a store that can take pre-orders

Marcos launched with ten designs, eight tees and two hoodies, all on pre-order so the first run could pay for production. The store had to take real payments into his own account, charge sales tax correctly, and keep shipping simple: one flat rate in the US, free over $100.

It isn't a template platform. The shop grid, the product cards, the cart and the phone layout were built for his lineup and his rules: 2XL tees cost a little more, hoodies are priced on their own, and other colors are on request through the contact form.

Payment happens on Stripe Checkout, in Marcos's own Stripe account. Sales tax is worked out automatically from the shipping address. Before launch it was checked with a New York address: the state's clothing exemption applied and only the local rate was charged.

How the store works

From picking a size to paying, every step shows what the buyer is getting and when it ships.

Stripe Checkout

Stripe Checkout, his own accountThe last step is Stripe's own payment page in Marcos's account: Apple Pay or card, $8 flat-rate shipping, tax worked out from the shipping address, and the pre-order close date just above the Pay button.

From close date to print list

Every order is a pre-order with a set close date, shown in the cart and again on the payment page. When a batch closes, a small export reads the paid orders from Stripe and writes two files: a print list of designs, sizes and counts with no customer details, and an orders file for shipping. Fully refunded orders are left out, and a partial refund is flagged to check before anything is printed.

A careful launch

Until launch day, the domain showed a simple Opening soon page, hidden from search, while the store was tested on a private preview. On launch day the store went live with checkout switched on, and the real payment page was opened and checked without placing an order.

Marcos also got a personalized Launch Guide: what his domain and hosting each do, what's his, what the 30-day Launch Warranty covers, and how to ask for changes.
